NNPS, Heritage High and Huntington Middle, Return to In Person Learning

Newport News school administrators have announced both Heritage High School and Huntington Middle School will return to in-person learning next week. Huntington Middle School will return on Oct. 25th and Heritage High School students will return on Oct 27th. Prior to re-opening its doors, Huntington Middle School will have an open house on Oct 21st and Heritage High will have theirs on Oct. 25th.

One month ago today a 15-year-old student opened fire inside of Heritage High School after getting into a physical altercation with one of the two injured students. One 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg and a 17-year-old girl was shot in the face during crossfire.

The 15-year-old shooter has been charged with two counts of aggravated malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, as well as underage possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm on school property, discharging a firearm in an occupied building, reckless handling of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
