High School Football Team Wins Championship on Sandy Hook Anniversary

Saturday marked the seventh anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in which 26 children and educators were killed in a mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

While it continues to be a somber day, residents in the town also had reason to celebrate this year, as the Newtown Nighthawks high school football team won the state championship in dramatic fashion.

With just seconds remaining, quarterback Jack Street threw a 36-yard pass to wide receiver Riley Ward, who ran the ball in for a touchdown as the clock expired, giving Newton a 13-7 victory over the Darien Blue Wave. (The Washington Post)
