Weezer Pay Tribute To The Cars' Late Frontman Ric Ocasek

Most people know Ric Ocasek as the frontman of the Cars, but he was also a talented producer. His long production resume included albums by Bad Brains, Bad Religion, Nada Surf, and Weezer. In fact, he produced three of Weezer's 13 albums (1994's Weezer (Blue Album), 2001's Weezer (Green Album, and 2014's Everything Will Be Alright In The End. When it was announced that the lauded music man passed away on Sunday (September 15), the band took to Twitter to pay tribute to their collaborator and friend.

"The weezer family is devastated by the loss of our friend and mentor Ric Ocasek, who passed away Sunday," they wrote alongside a series of photos from the studio. "We will miss him forever, & will forever cherish the precious times we got to work and hang out with him. Rest in Peace & rock on Ric, we love you."

Check out their heartfelt tribute below.

Ocasek was found unresponsive in his New York City townhouse on Sunday. When police arrived, he was announced dead at the scene. The office of the Chief Medical Examiner reports he died of natural causes (he suffered from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and hypertension). He was 75 years old.
