'Boyhood' Director Richard Linklater Making Next Film Over 20 Years

Director Richard Linklater has just announced his newest project - and it may be the most ambitious idea for a movie yet.

Linklater will direct a film version of the Broadway musical Merrily We Roll Along, and it will be filmed over a span of 20 YEARS!

If you recall, he did something similar with his Oscar-nominated movie Boyhood, which was filmed over 12 years.

Merrily We Roll Along is a Stephen Sondheim musical that debuted in 1981. It's a story about a composer who loses sight of his friends and family to become a Hollywood producer. The musical begins at the height of his fame later in life, and moves backward in time.

Beanie Feldstein, Benn Platt, and Blake Jenner are set to star.
