MTV Quietly Dropped Michael Jackson's Name From Vanguard Award

Missy Elliott was the latest winner of the annual "lifetime achievement award" at the VMA's on Monday - also known as the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

But after some controversy over the name of the award following the accusations in Leaving Neverland, MTV quietly removed Michael's name from the award without explanation during the show.

They originally renamed the award in his honor in 1991.

Though they did include Michael's name on the press release that announced Missy as the recipient this year, they didn't use it in any of the promos or announcements during the show.

Missy Elliott was sure to acknowledge him during her acceptance speech, though.

“The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award means so much to me,” she said, before thanking Michael's sister Janet Jackson for her friendship and inspiration.

MTV never made any comment on the omission.
