'Game of Thrones' Creators Sign $200 Million Deal With Netflix

After spending the last 10 years working on Game of Thrones with HBO, creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss are officially moving on to Netflix.

The two have signed a $200 million multi-year overall film and TV deal, which was the result of a bidding war between Netflix, Amazon, and Disney.

“We’ve had a beautiful run with HBO for more than a decade and we’re grateful to everyone there for always making us feel at home,” said Benioff and Weiss in a joint statement.

"Netflix has built something astounding and unprecedented, and we’re honored they invited us to join them.”

Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer of Netflix, said that the company is excited to welcome the "master storytellers."

“They are a creative force and have delighted audiences worldwide with their epic storytelling. We can’t wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members.”

Benioff and Weiss are also currently working on an untitled Star Wars movie for Disney, which will hit theaters in 2022.
