The Emmys Will Have No Host This Year

Following the success of the Oscars going "hostless" this year, the Emmys will now be taking the same approach.

FOX CEO Charlie Collier confirmed during FOX's TV Critics Association press tour that the 2019 Emmys will have no host - mostly to make more time to honor the shows we're losing in 2019, like Game of Thrones, Veep, and The Big Bang Theory.

"If you have a host or an opening number, that's 15, 20 minutes that you can't use to salute the shows," Collier said.

"So we'll go hostless this year. I think it will give us more time to honor those shows."

There will still be some sort of opening number to start the show, and the producers promise "many surprises" throughout.

However, that does not mean that there won't be an opening number, or that the opening will be replaced by a sort of TV show In Memoriam. Collier says there will still be an opening number.

Last year's show was hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost and was broadcast on NBC.

The 2019 Emmys will air live on FOX on Sunday, September 22nd at 8 p.m. ET from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
