Instagram Testing New Feature To Hide "Likes"

Instagram has now been testing a new feature to hide “likes” in 6 new countries, months after they launched its initial test in Canada.

The testing is now in Australia, Brazil, Ireland, Italy, Japan and New Zealand.

Users will still be able to see how many like their posts get, but when someone else goes to their post, the number of likes will not be shown.

“We hope this test will remove the pressure of how many likes a post will receive, so you can focus on sharing the things you love,” Facebook director Mia Garlick said.

The larger test comes after Instagram head Adam Mosseri said the company wants users to focus less on like counts and create “a less pressurized environment where people feel comfortable expressing themselves,” rather than one where people delete posts that don’t get enough likes.

The test is also a result of more evidence found that likes are bad for mental health.
