Candlelight Vigil Tonight For Sweet Pea Whitaker

The Hampton Roads community is coming together to honor the passing of local legend Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker.

The Olympic gold medalist and champion boxer died after being hit by a car in Virginia Beach late on Sunday night.

He grew up in Norfolk, and a candlelight vigil has been planned for tonight at 7pm on Whitaker Lane.

The street near P.B. Young Elementary School was renamed for the boxing champ. Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander, Councilman Paul Riddick, and Delegate Jay Jones will be there to honor Whitaker.
