Early Monday morning, she releases the music video for “You Need to Calm Down.” Taylor teased the guest stars that include more than a dozen members of the LGBTQ community. People like Ellen DeGeneres, Laverne Cox,RuPaul, Adam Lambert, figure skater Adam Rippon and Taylor’s choreographer Todrick Hall. (Billboard)
The organization Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) reports donations skyrocketed following the release of “You Need to Calm Down.” Taylor’s lyrics take aim at anti-equality protesters: “You are somebody that we don’t know but you’re coming at my friends like a missile. Friday night, Taylor made a surprise performance at the iconic gay bar called the Stonewall Inn. Modern Family actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson introduced Taylor, who sang “Shake It Off” at the West Village bar. Exactly 50 years ago, the Stonewall patrons rioted against police trying to crack down on same-sex couples. The Stonewall Uprising sparked the modern gay rights movement. (People)
