Most consider Beyoncé the greatest entertainer of her generation.
Legendary R&B singer Dionne Warwick does not belong to that crowd. She declared, “Watching Beyoncé grow has been quite refreshing. Now, becoming a big icon? I doubt that. I love her to death. But that iconic status? It’s a long road ahead.”
Over Warwick’s career during the '60s, '70s and '80s, she scored 55 Billboard Hot 100 hits. That’s nearly twice the number by Beyoncé.
Warwick turns 79 this year. At that age, you can say exactly what’s on your mind with a devil-may-care attitude. Dionne told Essence magazine, (quote) “I don’t know if 10 years from now, anybody can sing the songs of our babies today. That’s not ‘throwing shade.’ It’s looking at it with reality.”
