Emilia Clarke and 'Game of Thrones' Creators Defend Daenerys' Storyline

Fans have been extremely divided about Season 8, Episode 5 of Game of Thrones - for many reasons.

One of the biggest issues that was brought up was the character of Daenerys and her choice to burn down the city of Kings' Landing.

Some fans are accusing the show runners of misogyny and poor character development, saying that it doesn't seem logical for Dany to descend into madness so quickly, and the fact that she murdered so many innocent people only invalidates all of her previous actions on the show.

(On the other hand, there are also a great number of people who think that her decision was definitely foreshadowed and made sense.)

In an HBO behind-the-scenes video, actress Emilia Clarke says that she believes Dany's actions made sense because of how much she lost in the previous few episodes.

The show's co-creator David Benioff also defended the writing, saying that the attack on King's Landing WAS, in fact, foreshadowed by Dany's words and actions in previous seasons.
