Scientology Ship Quarantined Because of Measles Diagnosis On Board

Public health officials have confirmed that a ship owned by the Church of Scientology has been quarantined in Saint Lucia after a crew member on board has tested positive for measles.

Authorities are currently investigating the situation. There are almost 300 passengers and crew members on board.

One female crew member has a confirmed case of measles and authorities said they've been working in close consultation with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).

NBC News confirmed that the 440-foot cruise ship is named “Freewinds” and is owned by the Church of Scientology.

The church has not yet commented on the situation.

For now, the ship is scheduled to leave St. Lucia at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, officials said.
