Slash Looks Forward To "Give-And-Take" Of Upcoming Guns N' Roses Sessions

Slash is much happier being back in Guns N' Roses and leading a band with Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators than he was as a truly "solo" artist.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was recently prodded about his feelings on being in a band versus going the Joe Satriani or Steve Vai route, which he was encouraged to do after leaving GNR in the '90s.

"I love playing guitar, but in this business, what really got me going was being in a band — working within the confined of a rock 'n' roll band," Slash told CFOX.

Slash said he never aspired to write "complex instrumentals," and spend hours perfecting them in the studio. The guitar hero, who's been on tour with his two different bands for the better part of the last three years, says he's always been motivated by getting back on stage.

"And I think that was the key thing that's always motivated me and that's what keeps me around, getting out in front of those people and playing," he continued. "That's why, as long as I'm doing this, I still love it so much, 'cause that is exciting for me."

He describes songwriting and studio work as "a means to an end," which is to get on stage with a band.

The reason Slash continues to work with Kennedy & The Conspirators is because each band member brings his own personality to the music.

"It's gotta have that give-and-take dynamic that working with other guys creates — a certain kind of energy," he explained.

Slash is booked with Kennedy & The Conspirators supporting their latest album, Living The Dream, through mid-August. Get all the tour dates here.

GNR is expected to play a slew of dates in October before getting back in the studio to workshop new music later in the fall.
