Backstage Details from SNL on Pete Davidson's Breakdown

Backstage details have emerged about Saturday Night Live’s handing of Pete Davidson in his moment of emotional crisis.

On Saturday, before deleting his account, Pete Instagrammed, (quote) “I really don’t want to be on this earth anymore. I’m doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don’t know how much longer I can last.”

The show’s producer, Lorne Michaels, decided at the last minute to give Pete the day off. They shuffled the cast in some of the sketches while scratching others that included Pete during Friday’s rehearsals.

An insider said, (quote) “Lorne has pledged to help all he can, including sending Pete to get help. Everyone on the cast is hugely protective of him.”

Lorne Michaels made the unusual decision to have Pete introduce the musical guest, who was Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson. That role is typically reserved for the guest host. The viewers, who turned in because of Pete's meltdown, learned first-hand that he was doing OK. (New York Post)
