Ed Sheeran Sued... AGAIN!

Ed Sheeran is facing another lawsuit over one of his songs. The company Structured Asset Sales has filed a $100 million lawsuit claiming Ed’s hit “Thinking Out Loud” is a rip-off of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.”

Structured Asset Sales owns one third of the copyright to “Let’s Get It On,” which was written by Edward Townsend and Gaye in 1973. They argue in their suit that Ed’s tune has the same melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bassline, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping as Gaye’s classic.

This is the second suit Ed’s facing over “Thinking Out Loud.” Back in 2016, Townsend’s heirs also sued over the tune, and Ed fired back that the cord progression in the song is “extremely commonplace.”
