Supporters of a 14-year-old swimmer whoโs battling terminal bone cancer came out to show their love at a swim meet. Grace Bunke, affectionately known as โAmazing Graceโ to her loved ones, qualified for the state swim meet in Georgia, but her illness kept her home that day.
That didnโt stop her fans from showing their support, though. They all held red umbrellas, adding lots of color to the stands in Amazing Graceโs honor. Why umbrellas? Theyโre a tribute to Graceโs favorite quote: โPrayer is asking for rain. Faith is bringing the umbrella.โ
And when Grace couldnโt make it to swim that day, Olympic silver medal swimmer Amanda Weir swam in her place. โI was so honored to be asked to swim for her today,โ she says.
