Supporters of a 14-year-old swimmer who’s battling terminal bone cancer came out to show their love at a swim meet. Grace Bunke, affectionately known as “Amazing Grace” to her loved ones, qualified for the state swim meet in Georgia, but her illness kept her home that day.
That didn’t stop her fans from showing their support, though. They all held red umbrellas, adding lots of color to the stands in Amazing Grace’s honor. Why umbrellas? They’re a tribute to Grace’s favorite quote: “Prayer is asking for rain. Faith is bringing the umbrella.”
And when Grace couldn’t make it to swim that day, Olympic silver medal swimmer Amanda Weir swam in her place. “I was so honored to be asked to swim for her today,” she says.
