Ellen Degeneres and former President George W Bush have responded to backlash over them hanging out at a Dallas Cowboys football game on Sunday. After the two were spotted sitting together at the event, critics online went a little mental that an openly liberal talk show host and gay icon would be so friendly with a conservative, Republican president.
Fast forward to yesterday...and Ellen is defending her friendship with Bush, telling viewers that she has all kinds of friends – even those who “don’t share the same beliefs.” “We are all different, and I’ve think we’ve forgotten that that’s okay,” she said. “When I say ‘be kind to one another,’ I mean be kind to everyone.”
The former president caught wind of her comments, of course, and since has spoken out to thank her. A rep for Bush tells Fox News that he enjoyed Ellen and her wife Portia De Rossi’s company and “really appreciated” what she said on the show “about respecting one another.”
