Outer Bands of Dorian will begin moving in this afternoon.
Tomorrow is when we get our greatest impact from the storm. Winds gusting to around 60MPH for Hampton Roads, Hurricane force (74+) for coastal North Carolina.
Coastal flooding could be the worst impact for our area. 2-4 feet in Hampton Roads, 3-6 feet for the Outer Banks. High tide at Sewells Point will hit at the peak of the storm tomorrow. Flood prone areas will become impassible during that time.
3-6 inches of rain is expected too…so Flash Flooding is possible all over the listening area.
It will clear out Friday night…making for a nice weekend.
The U.S. Navy has ordered ships based at Naval Station Norfolk to head out to sea to avoid Hurricane Dorian.
Vice Admiral Andrew Lewis said in a statement Tuesday that the ships will remain at sea until the threat from the storm subsides.
Portsmouth is getting ahead of the storm.
All city schools and school administrative offices will be closed today and tomorrow. An emergency shelter will open at I.C. Norcom High School today at noon. Portsmouth city garages are now open if you want to move your car.
The City of Norfolk is opening several garages tonight beginning at 6 so residents can move their cars to higher ground.

Vehicles must be removed by noon on Saturday.
In addition, Old Dominion University parking garages will open to residents today at 5. You’ll need to pick up your car by 8am on Monday.
ODU announced it is cancelling all classes and events for Friday.
Most of the area’s trash collection is on as scheduled today but suspended for tomorrow.
