Andrew Zimmern Sparks Outrage with Chinese Comment

“Bizarre Foods” host Andrew Zimmern is in hot water over a comment he made about Chinese restaurants. Zimmern was promoting his new Chinese restaurant chain, Lucky Cricket, in an interview with Fast Company when he made the controversial remark. Ironically, the host opened up about the problems with “cultural insensitivity” in his Travel Channel show during the same interview.

Talking about his dream of “putting 200 restaurants across Middle America,” Zimmern said he thinks he’s “saving the souls of all the people from having to dine at these horses**t restaurants masquerading as Chinese food that are in the Midwest.” He’s been called out by critics online as well as publications, like the Washington Post, who have slammed his so-called “noble cause of ‘saving’ white people from eating bad Chinese food.”

“When Chinese people make Americanized Chinese food for white people, Zimmern calls it ‘horses**t,’ but when he does it, it’s ‘unique.’”

Zimmern has apologized for the comments, saying, “I am completely responsible for what I said and I want to apologize to anyone who was offended.”

Travel Channel has since dropped Zimmern’s shows from primetime, moving them into graveyard slots. However, a rep for the network claims that the change came “before Andrew’s comments were made.”
