Romaine Lettuce Coming Back to Stores

Rest easy salad eaters…romaine lettuce is heading back to supermarkets! As we told you before, the FDA urged restaurants, grocers, and consumers to throw out their Romaine lettuce due to an E. coli outbreak just before Thanksgiving. The outbreak sickened more than 40 people in 12 states.

The FDA has since released a statement saying that the most likely source of the contamination is from lettuce grown in California's Central Coast, which lies between Los Angeles and San Francisco. As for what’s in your store? The dirty stuff is likely chopped as well.

How will you know what’s safe? The FDA says Romaine producers and distributors will include product labeling and dating to assure consumers that the lettuce they're buying isn't associated with the outbreak.
