Chesapeake Doctor Arrested For Performing Unwanted Hysterectomies

A doctor in Chesapeake, Virginia is under arrest after allegedly performing unwanted hysterectomies and tying women's fallopian tubes without consent.

Federal authorities arrested Javaid Perwaiz on Friday and charged with health care fraud and making false statements to federal investigators.

Court papers say that he told one woman that she needed a hysterectomy due to the onset of cancer.

She instead agreed to a less invasive procedure - only to awaken from it to find Perwaiz had performed the hysterectomy anyway. He also cut her bladder, which resulted in sepsis and a longer hospital stay for her.

Another woman was treated by Perwaiz after an ectopic pregnancy, but when she later visited a fertility specialist, that doctor said that her fallopian tubes “were burnt down to the nubs."

Perwaiz lost admitting privileges at another hospital in 1982 and has previously faced eight malpractice suits.
