WATCH: Will Smith Finds Pre-Cancerous Polyps During Colonoscopy

Will Smith was advised to schedule a colonoscopy after his recent 50th birthday. Not only did he go in for the procedure, but he also posted a video of the whole visit on his YouTube channel - and it ended up being much more eye-opening than he expected.

The doctor told him that they’d found and removed a pre-cancerous polyp – a tubular adenoma.

Apparently, 95 percent of colon cancers arise from that type of polyp that was in his colon.

“Had you not known, it continues to grow and grow and grow, and in African-American men in particular, the right colon is where cancer is high because it's the biggest part,” Dr. Stanford said. “Yours was on a side that would've been more advanced, you would've had fewer typical symptoms and by the time you presented it could've been full-blown and spread throughout your body.”
