MoviePass Subscription Service Finally Shuts Down

The long-struggling theater subscription service MoviePass is finally dead.

This past Friday, all remaining subscribers were told that the service would be shutting down on Saturday.

Parent company Helios and Matheson Analytics said in a statement that “its efforts to recapitalize MoviePass have not been successful to date."

“The company is continuing its efforts to seek financing to fund its operations,” they continued. “The company is unable to predict if or when the MoviePass service will continue.”

Subscribers were told they would be issued refunds for any periods of service that they had already paid for.

MoviePass was plagued by plenty of drama and issues throughout its run - but in a way, we have it to thank for theater chains like AMC and Regal Entertainment creating their OWN similar services.
