The Latest: Hurricane Dorian Effects Are Felt in Hampton Roads

Hurricane Dorian is heading in to Hampton Roads…here’s the latest:

The National Hurricane Center said in its 5 a.m. update that Dorian is producing hurricane-force in the southern Outer Banks.

Life-threatening storm-surge is expected along the North Carolina coast and in southeastern Virginia. Water levels could rise in advance of strong winds, the hurricane center said.

The eye of Dorian is passing about 25 miles east of Cape Lookout.

Here are a few things you can do this morning:

  • Charge your smartphone, power could go out
  • Gas up the generator
  • Move your car! Tidal Flooding is expected to be a major issue Friday afternoon. All of the garages where you can park for free are at movin1077.com
  • Secure your stuff! Anything outside that is loose may blow around or away.

The wind will increase until about midday. Then things will start to get better. However…even though the rain and wind will subside…major tidal flooding is expected later today…probably around 4pm.

WAVY’s Kiahnna Patterson reports Virginia Beach police were seen patrolling the Oceanfront area ahad of Hurricane Dorian.
